We are seeking your views on the draft strategy for health and wellbeing in Leicestershire.

This strategy is our overarching plan to improve the health and wellbeing of children and adults in the county and to reduce health inequalities.
The strategy is driven by our joint strategic needs assessment, the overarching assessment of the health and wellbeing needs of our population across the wider health and social care economy.

Over the next three years Leicestershire's Health and Wellbeing Board, in partnership with local stakeholders, aims to "add quality and years to life" by improving health throughout people's lives, reducing health inequalities and focusing on the needs of the local population. More »

Please follow the link to the County Council website to Have your say on the draft strategy by reading the document and completing the form. » Less

SHIRE Community Climate Change Grants are available for projects in Leicestershire (not Leicester City or Rutland) to improve energy efficiency and reduce the potential impacts of climate change for community buildings.

Grants put local people at the heart of the community with the choice, decision making and leadership for community improvements, placed firmly within communities themselves.

See attached poster for more details.

How often do you use your local pub, village shop, post office, library?

How important are they to you and your community?

Due to changes in our lifestyle habits, the increase in out of town superstores and reductions in public sector funding - how confident can we be that these services will survive? Is it important? And do we need to take action to ensure that they are still here in 5 or 10 years time?

Join the Leicestershire Rural Partnership to explore these dilemmas and consider what communities and partners can do to reverse the downward trend of village services. Speakers include the Plunkett Foundation, Pub is the Hub and Leicestershire County Council library service. More »

The date: Thursday 27th September

The time:9:00 – 12:00(8:30for coffee and croissants)

It's a tough time to be a rural retailer in the UK. Aggressive tactics from large supermarkets, changes in the way people shop, compounded by a perceived drop in disposable income from UK consumers.

Leicestershire Rural Partnership have recognised this and will be providing independent and specialist retail consultancy to help protect, support and grow this vital sector of our community.

For more information on the support available, from online support,1-2-1 Email and Telephone Support, Grant support and face to face support visit the Village Shop Support Website.

Moira Dale playing field enhancements

Moira Dale playing field enhancements

For some time now the residents and users at Moira Dale have been asking for additional off-street car parking to supplement that at the front of the Village Hall.

This has been an on-going topic of discussion, but now with the help of the Community Valley Forum grant of £5000, the Parish Council has now successfully installed a much needed on-field car parking area with new fencing to protect the parked cars and shield the gardens too from stray cricket and footballs! More »

The total cost of the scheme was in the region of £15,000 so without the grant we would still be waiting!

Quote from the Village Hall Chairman:

"At the Village Hall Meeting last night there was great praise for the work done on the new car park, the difference is phenomenal, even in this monsoon weather it is still useable!!!" » Less

Police get tough with car cruisers

Police get tough with Castle Donington car cruisers

Police officers from Castle Donington are working in partnership with the North West Leicestershire Community Safety Partnership to tackle groups of people who gather with their vehicles in the area of Castle Donington, and use their vehicles in an anti social manner.

The police and partner agencies have received complaints about speeding, dangerous driving and vehicles racing in and around Castle Donington which mainly occurs late on Sunday evenings. More »

In conjunction with the North West Leicestershire Community Safety Partnership, Castle Donington Parish Council, and the Highways Department, measures have been put in place to monitor, disrupt, and where necessary prosecute, those who come to the area and use their vehicles in a way that causes disruption to the local community.

The measures include the use of temporary barriers, CCTV, and automatic number plate recognition.

Under Section 59 of the 2002 Police Reform Act, officers are given powers to stop anyone driving in a manner deemed inconsiderate and careless, and warn them that if they are caught doing it again within 12 months their vehicle will be taken away.

Sergeant Mark Watson who is the Team Leader for the Police Neighbourhood team, said;

"I am aware this issue has affected a number of local residents over recent years. Despite police intervention the problem has persisted. Following joint work with numerous agencies, including the North West Leicestershire Community Safety Partnership, the local Parish Council and the Highways Department, we have developed a long term plan to eliminate this problem. We will monitor this closely and enforce traffic regulations to ensure this problem is solved. I would urge all drivers at these gatherings to respect the law and other motorists by driving considerately and legally."

Cllr Colin Burton, Chairman of Castle Donington Parish Council said;

"I am really pleased with the work that has been undertaken by North West Leicestershire Community Safety Partnership. Car cruising has been a problem for us for a number of years. It is hoped that the cameras and changes to the area will discourage the presence of high performance vehicles in Castle Donington on Sunday evenings." » Less
