First Public Meeting

The Chairman gave a brief introduction as to why the Parish Council had decided to call this meeting. It was that felt that although the Parish Council has undertaken a number of enhancements to the central area of the Village, it wanted to find out exactly what the shop keepers and residents of the area wanted to improve and maintain the Centre of the Village – to make it a thriving Village Community Centre.
The meeting was intended to be a brainstorming session to hear, and listen to, people’s issues, concerns, and comments. It proved to be a very informative and interesting meeting with a “Wish List” of issues being raised. The Parish Council already has some of these issues in hand and will investigate a number of the other issues. Some issues will of course need the ratification of the Full Council; this will be made an appropriate agenda item in the future. There was considerable positive feed back from those present for the enhancements already undertaken, the improved street lighting, the new street furniture, hanging baskets, Christmas lights, etc. The Parish Council was also “thanked” for taking this initiative “showing it cares” for the Community it represents.

Next meeting is to be held on 1 September 2005

Market Street Enhancements

The Parish Council are pleased to report that some long awaited enhancements to the Market Place Area have now been completed. A new seat and litter bin, along with a finger post directing you to some of the historical sites of the Village have been erected. The summer display of hanging baskets are now in place. It is hoped that the area will provide a resting and meeting point for those using the Village Centre. It is hoped that a sense of pride in the surroundings will prevail.

The Parish Council has been successful in securing a grant through the LCC Shire grants scheme and a donation from GRAMLO - Donington Park Sunday Market towards this street furniture. Thanks to GRAMLO for their kind donation.
